Amazon.com Review The spiritual premise in The Purpose-Driven Life is that there are no accidents---God planned everything and everyone. Therefore, every human has a divine purpose, according to God's master plan. Like a twist on John F. Kennedy's famous inaugural address, this book could be summed up like this: "So my fellow Christians, ask not what God can do for your life plan, ask what your life can do for God's plan." Those who are looking for advice on finding one's calling through career choice, creative expression, or any form of self-discovery should go elsewhere. This is not about self-exploration; it is about purposeful devotion to a Christian God. The book is set up to be a 40-day immersion plan, recognizing that the Bible favors the number 40 as a "spiritually significant time," according to author Rick Warren, the founding pastor of Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, California, touted as one of the nation largest congregations. Warren's hope is that readers will "interact" with the 40 chapters, reading them one day at a time, with extensive underlining and writing in the margins. As an inspirational manifesto for creating a more worshipful, church-driven life, this book delivers. Every page is laden with references to scripture or dogma. But it does not do much to address the challenges of modern Christian living, with its competing material, professional, and financial distractions. Nonetheless, this is probably an excellent resource for devout Christians who crave a jumpstart back to worshipfulness. --Gail Hudson

Thoughtful meditations December 29, 2008 If you've ever felt as though you were an accident, this is the book to read. Everything about you has been planned before your birth, including your genetic makeup.
Why? Because God wants "YOU." You are created to fill a very specific place in His universe.
There are 40 daily readings to inspire and comfort you; to help you grow spiritually.
I recommend it. I may not agree with 100% of Rick Warren's theology, but there is a lot of good in this book.
Remarkable book December 28, 2008 This book "The Purpose-Driven Life", by Rick Warren helps the reader become more devoted to his Christian God. It creates the desire to worship God through a 40-day immersion plan. I certainly hope people follow this plan and learn the joys of getting close to God. I see from reading the reviews on this site some people have recommend my book, "The Enlightenment, What God Told Me After One Million Prayers: A Message for Everyone," and again I just want them to know how much I appreciate their recommendation, especially at such a excellent site. I wrote this book out of love and for the glory of God and Jesus, not for my own fame or fortune. I welcome people to read my book, I'm sure you'll find this non-fiction account of a loving God just as positive and inspiring.
Rick Warren has got it together December 28, 2008 I have had this book for about 2 years now, and I keep it by my bedstand. I have hated all those self-help books out there who say if you just do xyz, your life will change. There is a new one out every other week, and most of it is just nonsense. I want something real. I want the TRUTH. Give me the real deal.
But this book is different. Rick Warren says it is not all about YOU. Your life is about God. We were created by God and for God, and as soon as we realize that, our lives will be changed forever.
I have been a Christian my entire life, and I still was able to learn a lot from this book. It grounds me. It gives me purpose. Faith gives us purpose and peace, and those who walk in faith, will continue to walk in the light. Go Rick Warren!
Start on page 256... December 18, 2008 I'm the author of Lipstick Ghetto: The Girls' Guide to Escaping The 9-to-5 Rat Race. My sister gave me this book a few weeks ago. If you want to learn more about how to use your gifts in ministry start on page 256. Here Pastor Warren talks about how to determine your Spiritual Gifts, Heart, Abilities, Personalities and Experience. He also advises that you listen for "inner promptings" from God to give you direction.
Power in Purpose! December 18, 2008 Rick Warren does a phenomenal job taking us through a 40 day journey to assist us in discovering your purpose. He begins with showing us the general will/purpose of God for every believer. It is only when we are obedient to the general will of God that He will reveal the specific will/purpose for our lives!
