Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Its those first couple of years that can make or break a small business. Before you decide to open up your own retail shop, read this book!

You're ready to take that risk (or you've already started). You know the odds are stacked against you, and you're looking for some moral support. You want to know how others have dealt with the first difficult years of owning their own retail business, their own "cute little store." Many books tell you how to start a business, but not many deal with what happens right after you've made that leap. Cute Little Store tells you about all the little pitfalls that happen along the way, and how to not let those pitfalls get in the way of your success.

I really enjoyed this book. Anyone thinking of opening a small business should read this.

4 out of 5 stars Pretty good   August 16, 2008

I like the familiar style the author uses, it makes the book an easy no nonsense read. I do have to say, though, I was saddened to learn her store finally did go out of business. I don't blame her at all, though, she did everything right. It's just our country is such a mess now, the economy is so bad, it's very difficult to make a go at anything these days. I gave it only 4 stars because of certain perspectives on business and retail but overall, worth a read.

this book is little more than narcissistic indulgence, and not all original, at that! save your money or chose a different book.

5 out of 5 stars Entrepreneurs, this is the book you were looking for   September 14, 2007

This book is for Actual People who are actually starting or pondering their own business. This isn't a "Looking back after having founded [Apple | Starbucks | Toyota]", nor is it a theoretical course in business administration. It's the information you genuinely need.

If you ever wanted to sit down with someone who had been running a successful small business for a few years and learn the real-world lessons they have learned, this book would be the transcript of exactly that conversation. I recommend it strongly.

4 out of 5 stars Eyes Wide Open   March 8, 2007

If you have stars in your eyes at the thought of opening a cute little shop, this book will bring your sights down to earth. Covers a wide range of issues you'll likely encounter and conveys what a tough business it really is. If you still want to open your shop after reading this, I applaud you--it made me want to run away screaming!

My only complaint is that the book is poorly proofed and edited--a couple hundred dollars paid to a sharp proofreader/editor would have caught typos and other mistakes and been money well spent.

Overall, this is a book I would recommend. I didn't really like hearing what it had to say, but I appreciate that it said it!
