An Inspirational Guide To Success! March 26, 2007 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
I've planned successful corporate Christmas parties, software user group conferences, non-profit fundraisers, weddings, church gatherings, and awards banquets but I found new ways to enhance my services and make the processes flow more smoothly when I read "The Complete Guide to Successful Event Planning".
Shannon Kilkenny provides comprehensive planning guidelines in a way that stimulates further brainstorming and creativity. She teaches you how to easily and systematically envision, create and run a fantastic event that will be memorable for all of the participants, enjoyable for the planner, and profitable when appropriate.
I particularly liked her advice on "greening" your event. Providing organic meals and other environmentally friendly offerings sends a positive message to participants, the community and potential clients. People want to hire event planners who are responsible people. What better way to demonstrate and promote your services than to host an event that is appealing, well-run and certified as environmentally sound?
This book does an excellent job of guiding you through the process of planning a successful event and is a must have for anyone who may be called upon to coordinate a gathering.
Best Planner Available March 21, 2007 Shannon has produced the most comprehensive and thorough event planner I have seen, while keeping the fun in it. A must have for every event pro or otherwise. Thank you, Shannon.

Don't miss this book February 10, 2007 7 out of 9 found this review helpful
This book will make your next event planning fantastically easy. I have never seen a better book on how to create the event that you need and want. It is concise but no detail or list that you will need is omitted. It's CD-ROM will let you access all the working materials on your computer. It facilitates your creating the ambiance and context you wish to realize through your event. It even helps you "green" your event.
We could say much more but think you will know how great this book is the moment you have your hands on it or view it on this site. The commonsense, dedication, and competence of this quite amazing book will grab you right away.
At The Family Institute of Berkeley we have had to plan many events ranging from small groups to audiences of hundreds including workshop settings, meals, and lodging for people who have come from all over the world over a period of some thirty years. This book would have spared us a lot of inventing and pouring over lists and reminders. You may be able to do all this work yourself but why not have it done for you?
We have worked with Shannon Kilkenny, participated in events and have come to respect and admire her integrity, determination, kindness, and incredible competence. It is that which makes this book uniquely helpful..

I wish I had this book when I planned my wedding January 30, 2007 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
This book is an essential comprehensive step-by-step guide for anyone who is organizing a group gathering. It doesn't matter if the event is for a small group of 10 or a convention of hundreds, this book will help to develop your organizational skills to ensure your planned event goes as smoothly as possible.
I especially liked the true stories from event planners about parties that went very well or very wrong, particularly the story about a murder disrupting an event.
This book is a necessity for anyone planning an event of any size, from a baby shower to a conference for thousands of people. It will assist you through the planning stages, financing, meal planning, advertising, security, and after event chores such as bill paying, thank you notes and evaluations. With the assistance of this book, any event you plan will be a success.
