What are some positive and negative aspects of purchasing a franchise?

As a personal opinon, doing books for both franchise and privately ran businesses, I don't see the bottom line in dollars and cents. I see at the end of the fiscal period a more satisfied owner who is able to call the shots on major business decisions than one who is stuck in a corporate box.
