...places, like Dunkin donuts putting out tip jars on the counter? I don't know why it bothers me but it does!

Me too, it's tacky. They are not waitresses. They are not paid the same way that waiters and waitresses are. (Waiters/waitresses are allowed to be paid at below minimum wage because of tips.)Besides, they often don't speak English and mess up orders alot.

Every where I go, like drive through coffee places, have tip jars. It's your choice to donate or not. If I get really good service and the person is polite and friendly I will give a tip. When you are a young person earning minimum wage, tips are a good thing. Put yourself in their place and it might not be so upsetting. What really gets my goat is people standing at the intersections holding signs up. Most of these people are frauds and just don't want to work.

It doesn't bother me at all. I always give them a tip. Those kids dont make to much money there and they work hard dealing with alot of pain in the butt customers.

I ignore them. They are usually paid better than regular wait staff. My daughter worked in a Fast Food place for 6 years while she did her university and lived ok on her salary. Why tip someone when all they do is use tongs to bag a donut? If that was so we would be tipping cashiers at the grocery, the lady who hands you your dry cleaning, the guy who finds you "that" book in the store!Ridiculous. If a company is charging $.75 for a friggin donut they should pay their staff better!Concerned: Some of those at intersections, about 2% here are poor and have legitimate handicaps. There are a few here in my town and they have serious problems physically. It is best to check first before condemning them all, my friend. Those ones, if I have a bit of change, I help.

I have always wondered why place like that that doesn't have waiters/waitresses have tip jars on the counter. They are doing what they are suppose to be doing and paid. In a way they are providing a service but you are not "waiting on a customer for about an hour why they eat and you keep on going and getting them what they need. I guess it is nice that some people do put a tip in the jar but I don't. I don't think that type of job calls for it.

that's a heck of a hike they have to take to go all the way behind where they are standing, get your stale donut, turn back around and bam!! the return trip., the tip is probably for some new shoes.
