Post How to Buy a Franchise (Sphinx Legal)

Every day, more and more people want to take control of their destiny and become their own boss. However, most people have no idea how to take the first step. How to Buy a Franchise is that first step.
Finding information on selecting and buying a franchise has never been easier. This book explains everything you need to know about how to research a franchise company, analyze its financial and sales information and investigate earnings claims of the franchisor.
-- Discusses the franchise Disclosure Statement -- Addresses protection available to the buyer under FTC regulations -- Provides lists of government agencies, organizations and other sources of information for the potential franchisee
Additional material is included for after a franchise is selected so you may better negotiate the franchise agreement and then maintain a good relationship with the franchisor. From coffee and doughnuts to burgers and fries to oil and lube jobs, the opportunities available for someone to start a proven business are countless. This book will help anyone turn these opportunities into realities.
Customer Review: Very Generic Information
This book barely scratches the surface. It has very generic advice. For instance, you will find the author repeat again again and again the common cliche 'Buyer beware'. Further there is only 130 pages of material in there. The rest is appendices with agreement formats. I personally did not think that this book delved deep enough. It just gives very general advice like you should make sure you read the terms carefully, use a lawyer and speak to existing franchisees with a detailed list of questions. Hey I don't know about you but these facts are very common place and common sense to me. I would have expected that the author should have talked about a handful of successful franchisors in different business areas and given us a taste of the good and bad players. Really let down by this book!
Customer Review: Seasoned tips on how to research a franchise opportunity
Plenty of workers want to own their own business: for those who would buy into a successful formula, there's attorney James A. Meaney's How To Buy A Franchise, an excellent book (especially for the novice entrepreneur) which is packed from cover to cover with invaluable and seasoned tips on how to research a franchise opportunity, analyze its financial and sales details, and understand typical disclosure documents and agreements. No franchise purchase should be considered without understanding the basics in How To Buy A Franchise.
