From the supplier: A study has been conducted to investigate the existence of a systematic performance differential between franchise outlets and similar independent businesses. Earlier studies have suggested that franchising, which constitutes approximately 40% of all retail trade, is supplanting independent businesses in the US economy. Findings have revealed that the greater the size and resource base of the franchise, there exists a higher degree of specialization.
