There may be days you need to stay late for various reasons but a typical AF day at a base in the states in 7:30 AM to about 4:30 PM. You should have time to work your other business.

until you sign your forms at MEPS you are not in the military. Just tell the recruiter that you have changed you mind they might hassle you or try to say that its too late but just tell him that its a delayed entry meaning you have not entered.

dude, right now even though you are in the dep, you still can be classified as military (i asked my recruiter about that) and yes duties are usually 7-4pm depending what job you have, and with the military, there will always be that chance of them having you stay later for certain duties as well. with the Air Force also, we are ALL deps, activeor reserves are supposed to maintain and live the Air Forces' three core values...1) Integrity first2)Service before self (this one is the one core value your trying to get the answers on)3)Excellance in all we doif you keep those core values in mind at all times you will be fine.

Alot of people have businesses and are active duty. What you MUST remember is that you will have "duty days" that last 24 hours, and that you may be deployed, or at prolonged training exercises. Also, depending on the nature of this 'franchise' you have going, you may want to do a little more research. If it is a legitimate business, and you will be paid accordingly, then perhaps you should consider NOT joining the military. It IS a full time job for the most part. Yeah, you may have a 9-5 for most the time, but you may find yourself doing accounting in Iraq too. If you have "other goals", then tell your recruiter you want out of your contract. They will help you find a way if they can.

Okay lets break this down. If you join the Air Force your hours are whatever they tell you they are. There are no "business hours" in the military. You could be working midnight shift, you could be working 4am to 4pm. The first year or so you are in, you have to complete your career development course. This is upgrade training for whatever career you are in. Plus when you first come in, you are the low person on the totem pole. This means that you will work the bad shift or the bad job most likely. If you work in Finance, where hours are pretty much set you may be able to have a second job. If you are Services, Security Forces, or Medical, you probably won't. Also, keep in mind, any jobs outside of the Air Force have to be approved by your commander. If he feels that you having a job will take away from your training you can't get a second job. If you deploy, your franchise may be screwed.I love the military, it has given me my life. I recommend it to anyone. But if you can't commit to it, then you have no place in it.
