Default Will the Senators hang the franchise tag on Heatley before he becomes an UFA?

He will most likely be the top UFA next year. Could demand as much as 8 million. What other teams could attract him?

It was said that the Senators were currently negotiating a contract with him so I don't think he is going anywhere.

I think that if anyone were to tackle The Heater next year it would probably be His old Team Atlanta, they will have the money to do that next year, but i honestly see him getting 29 different calls if he did become an UFA but i hear that a new contract is being negotiated as we speak, so i dont think there is a worry, Brian Murry will for sure make sure hes back and ready to lead the team back into the play-offs.

Only if he's going to play football. The franchise exception is an NFL bylaw. No such clause exists in the NHL's rules of free agency.
