Beguile organizer John D'Esposito can't get enough of the Jersey shore.
Not only is he bringing his annual music festival -- the biggest in New Jersey -- to Asbury Park this could, but he's planning to throw a 2nd, similar festival 3 months later in Wildwood, a city with a long tradition of hosting musical events. D'Esposito made the announcement at a Fool kickoff party at Irving Plaza in new york Town on Wednesday night.
The holiday, which will be taking place on August 24 and Twenty-five, won't be Beguile II. D'Esposito and his team will book pop and country, not the punk music, hiphop, electronic music and heavy metal that is characteristic of Fool entertainment.
D'Esposito provided extra details about how he plans to squish the huge Bamboozle into Asbury Park. There will indeed be a mainstage on the beach -- the most important, the promoter recounted, ever built for the 'Boozle. Bamboozle will take over the strip of beach directly north of Convention Hall and Paramount Theatre, each of which will be used for the holiday. As of now, swimming and surfing while listening to music will be allowed.
The B-Boy Arena and hiphop stage will be located in the park just south of the Berkeley Hotel. The Break stage for contest winners will be on Ocean Avenue north of Convention Hall.
D'Esposito intends to recreate Skate N ' Surf -- the first holiday that engendered the Beguile -- at Convention Hall. He's got some aspiring plans for the Paramount Theatre, too. A troupe of favourite Beguile musicians will perform two live stagings of the Rocky Horror Picture Show : one at 11 p.m. And one at 1 a.m.
The festival will run from 5 p.m. Till 11 p.m. On Friday the 18th of May and 2 p.m. Until Eleven p.m. On Sat. and Sunday. D'Esposito guesses that 105,000 listeners will attend Bamboozle 2012.
Will the shore town have difficulty accommodating all of those festivalgoers? D'Esposito isn't worried. He suspects that there'll be adequate parking available, and he spotlighted the walk from the train station to the beach is no longer than the walk from the Izod Center to MetLife Stadium. It's a heck of a lot more scenic, too.
Fool is also creating an electronic wristband system that may allow organizers to keep a record of the crowds and will obviate the requirement for money.
Jersey faves Dramarama will reunite for an afterparty concert at the Stone Pony on Saturday night.
