Do any of the pet stores like petco or petsmart do franchising? What kind of income can an experienced pet handler/groomer expect to see from a franchise of this sort?

Petland does have franchises located throughout the United States, Canada, Japan, France, Chile and Israel. Every Petland location sells fish, birds, cats, dogs, small animals, reptiles and the food and accessories required to care for them. Since you know about animals it would make it that much easier to run the place, I'm not sure of the actual royalites.

Large retailers are starting to take over this market, i.e the PetCo and Pet Smart. However, there is still a niche available for those that are willing to take on the competition. I've seen lots of success with the Just Dogs Gourmet Franchise. We as Americans love our pets and we're willing to pay for it. Spoiling your pets is nothing new and this franchise gives an avenue for spending. It also creates extremely high revenues over the holiday season.

I agree with the big business taking over. If you want to sell dog food, I think you're in a lot of trouble, unless you're in a tiny town out in the middle of nowhere. But I think you stand still find franchise opportunities in gourmet food, dog training, exotic pets, and dog grooming. Day care is a BOOMING business around here, and none of the big shops do it yet.
