I understand that in local communities where there's a community pizza shop, the local pizza store is a staple, but would it be good to compete with that my getting a pizza chain franchise? I just noticed that lately the trend has been towards more upscale and gourmet pizza treatments.

I believe getting a pizza franchise is still very much profitable. In fact, Domino's Pizza is ranked 6th in Franchise 500's top 10 franchises for 2007. It has 4,553 in US franchises and 3,009 foreign franchises. It shouldn't be included in the list if not for several factors including profitability, right? Papa John's Int'l. Inc., on the another hand is ranked 10th with 2,091 US franchises. So, it only proves to show that pizza franchise is still up.

Pizza franchises are always going to be in demand; the first thing people look for after they move is their local pizza joints. When you are in a state or area that doesn't have very many pizza places than the only options are CiCi's, Papa John's, Dominoes Pizza Hut etc....

As long as you trust the Business itself (that it would make its mark on market) then it's totally fine.
